Larimar exists in exactly one place on Earth.

A single volcanic deposit in the Barahona Province of the Dominican Republic, in the mountains above the village of Los Chupaderos, is the world's only known source of this stone. The deposit was known to the indigenous Taíno people for centuries, then lost to the outside world, and then rediscovered in 1974 by a Dominican named Miguel Méndez, who named the stone by combining his daughter's name, Larissa, with the Spanish word for sea, mar.
