Hackmanite is a sulfur-rich variety of sodalite, a sodium aluminum silicate mineral in the feldspathoid group. It was first described in 1901 by the Canadian mineralogist W.E. Hidden and later named in honor of the Finnish geologist Victor Axel Hackman, who conducted pioneering research on the mineral deposits of Greenland and Finland, where significant Hackmanite deposits were first documented.
