About the Gemstone

Moonstone is a variety of feldspar, specifically orthoclase and albite, whose signature optical phenomenon is adularescence. This soft, billowing glow appears to move beneath the stone's surface like light beneath water. This effect is produced by the scattering of light between microscopic layers of feldspar within the crystal structure, and no two moonstones produce it in the same way.

The finest moonstones come from Sri Lanka, India, and Myanmar, where geological conditions produce the blue adularescence that collectors prize most highly. Store this necklace separately from harder stones and metals to protect the surface of the faceted beads and the pendant stone. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as it can affect adularescence over time. Keep away from water, perfume, hairspray, and chemical products. After wearing, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners entirely, as they can damage both the moonstone beads and the pendant setting.
