Sugilite Gemstone Necklace | Crocheted Necklace - Hidden Jewel of the South End
Hold it in your palm before you put it on.
Twenty inches of tiny 3mm faceted Sugilite, each bead no larger than a drop of rain, hand-strung and crocheted one at a time by Stacy into a tubular rope approximately a quarter inch round. The color is immediate and arresting. Not lavender. Not violet. Sugilite purple, a deep, saturated, almost otherworldly magenta-purple that has no equivalent in the gemstone world and no adequate comparison in ordinary language.
The rope is precise and tubular, the result of a technique that requires every bead to be placed with intention before the next. At 3mm, these are among the smallest faceted gemstone beads Stacy works with. The facets are tiny, but they are there, and in the right light they scatter that extraordinary purple in every direction at once.
The closure is a sterling silver box clasp adorned with a purple gemstone accent, chosen by Stacy because the necklace's clasp deserved to carry the same color story as the stone it holds together.
At 20 inches, this necklace drapes just below the collarbone, settling into the space above the heart with a presence that is quiet, deep, and completely certain of itself.
This is not a purple necklace. This is one of the rarest stones on earth, worn at the place where your spirit meets your skin.
There is exactly one of this necklace in the world. The gemstones pick you.
The Transformation
Sugilite was not discovered until 1944, making it one of the newest gemstones in the world. It was discovered in Japan by the petrologist Ken-ichi Sugi, after whom it is named. Significant gem-quality deposits were later found in the Wessels Mine in the Northern Cape of South Africa, and to this day that mine remains the primary source of the deep, saturated purple Sugilite that the crystal world has come to know and seek.
Because it is rare, because it is new, and because its color is unlike anything else, Sugilite arrived in the crystal healing world with an immediacy that older stones sometimes take centuries to build. The spiritual community recognized it almost instantly as something extraordinary. A stone for the age we are actually living in. A stone for the sensitive, the visionary, the deeply feeling person who sometimes finds this world too loud, too harsh, and too disconnected from the things that actually matter.
Stacy chose Sugilite for this necklace because she knows who reaches for it. She knows that the person drawn to this particular purple is not looking for decoration. They are looking for protection, for clarity, for the feeling of being fully themselves in a world that does not always make that easy.
Wear this necklace and feel what it does at 20 inches. The Sugilite rests just below your collarbone, above your heart, at the threshold between what you feel and what you say. It works there quietly, consistently, and with a depth that reveals itself over time.
Metaphysical Properties
Key Energies: Spiritual protection, psychic awareness, emotional healing, love of the highest order, wisdom, the courage to be fully oneself, sensitivity as a strength, visionary thinking, connection to divine purpose
Chakra Alignment: Sugilite is one of the premier Third Eye and Crown Chakra stones in the mineral kingdom. It opens and activates the upper chakras simultaneously, clearing the channel between intuition and higher guidance, between what you sense and what you know. It also resonates deeply with the Heart Chakra, creating a rare and powerful alignment among the heart, mind, and spirit. Worn at 20 inches, just below the collarbone, it works at the precise threshold where all three meet.
Elemental Association: Wind, Spirit
Emotional Healing: Sugilite is the stone of the sensitive soul. It creates a field of spiritual protection around the wearer, softening the impact of harsh environments, difficult people, and the accumulated weight of absorbing too much of the world's pain. It supports the release of grief, despair, and the particular exhaustion that comes from being deeply feeling in a world that does not always honor that as the gift it is. It replaces overwhelm with clarity, isolation with the felt sense of belonging, and the habit of hiding your sensitivity with the slow, brave practice of wearing it as the extraordinary strength it has always been.
Spiritual Growth: Sugilite is considered by many in the crystal-healing world to be a stone of the New Age, specifically attuned to the spiritual challenges and opportunities of the era we are living in. It supports visionary thinking, the development of psychic and intuitive gifts, and the deepening of connection to divine purpose and soul mission. It is a stone for the person who knows they are here for a reason and is still working out the full shape of that reason.

About the Gemstone
Sugilite is a rare potassium-sodium-lithium-iron-manganese-aluminum silicate mineral, first described in 1944 by the Japanese petrologist Ken-ichi Sugi, who discovered it on Iwagi Island in Japan. For decades it remained a scientific curiosity, known to mineralogists but largely absent from the gem world.
That changed in 1979, when a significant deposit of gem-quality Sugilite was discovered in the Wessels Mine in the Northern Cape of South Africa. The material that emerged from that mine was unlike anything the gem world had seen: a deep, saturated magenta-purple of extraordinary intensity, unlike any other purple gemstone in existence. It entered the market under the trade names "Royal Azel" and "Royal Lavulite" before the mineralogical name Sugilite became standard.
Today, the Wessels Mine remains the world's primary source of gem-quality Sugilite. It is genuinely rare. Fine material is difficult to source, and the deep, saturated purple that defines the finest specimens is not abundant. This is not a stone you encounter everywhere, because it does not exist everywhere.
In its faceted form, Sugilite reveals a depth of color that polished cabochons can sometimes obscure. The tiny facets on each 3mm bead in this necklace scatter the light through that extraordinary purple at multiple angles simultaneously, creating a rope of color that shifts and deepens as you move.
Sugilite registers between 5.5 and 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it a stone that rewards thoughtful, attentive care.
Reiki, Sound and Moon Energy Infused
Before this necklace reaches you, Stacy, a certified Reiki Master, Crystal Healer, and sound healing practitioner, channels Reiki energy directly into the stones with focused intention. Jack, a certified sound-healing practitioner, infuses the piece with sound-healing vibrations. The necklace is then moon-energized under the lunar cycle before it ships.
This is not done in bulk. It is done one piece at a time, so that what arrives in your hands is already working for you.
Ethically Sourced and Intuitively Selected
Every Sugilite bead in this necklace was handpicked. Stacy sources exclusively from values-aligned suppliers who operate with honesty, transparency, and deep respect for the earth and the communities that mine these stones.
She selects each bead individually for its color saturation, depth, and energetic resonance. No filler stones. No shortcuts. Only the stone that belongs in this piece.

How to Work With It
Before you put it on for the first time, hold the necklace in both hands and take three slow breaths. Set your intention quietly or out loud. Tell it what you need protection from, what you are ready to see more clearly, and what part of yourself you are finally ready to stop hiding.
Clasp it at 20 inches and feel it settle just below your collarbone. Place your hand over it for a moment. Breathe. That is your intention sealed.
During meditation, sit quietly with your eyes closed and your attention resting gently at the Third Eye, the space between and just above your eyebrows. Let the Sugilite at your chest create a column of purple light moving upward from the heart through the throat, through the Third Eye, and out through the Crown. Breathe into that column. Notice what arrives.
If you are an empath or a highly sensitive person, wear this necklace into environments that typically drain you and notice the difference. Sugilite does not make you less sensitive. It makes your sensitivity sustainable.
Care Instructions
Sugilite registers between 5.5 and 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it one of the softer gemstones in your collection. The 3mm faceted beads in this necklace are delicate and reward attentive, gentle care.
Store your necklace separately from all other gemstones and metals to prevent surface scratching. Even softer stones can damage Sugilite if stored together. Keep it in its own pouch or compartment.
Keep it away from prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade the natural purple color over time.
Remove before swimming, bathing, exercising, or applying perfume, lotion, or cleaning products. Water and chemicals can permanently damage the surface of Sugilite.
Clean with a soft, dry cloth only. Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or chemical jewelry solutions.
To cleanse energetically, place under moonlight overnight or use sound healing. Selenite is a safe and gentle option. Do not use salt water or water submersion of any kind.
These beads are 3mm. They are small, precise, and irreplaceable. Handle this necklace with the same care and intention with which it was made.
