Ammonites:
The Nautilus-shaped focus on the Ammonite fossil display plate clearly defines a fossilized ammonite in the center. Ammonites closely resemble modern squids, octopuses, and chambered nautiluses. Ammonites were carnivores. They lived around the same time as Orthoceras. Some are even older than the dinosaurs! They were predators in the oceans.
Orthoceras:
The black and white areas along the ammonite plate's edges feature cross-sections of Orthoceras fossils. Orthoceras were marine animals that lived between 200 and 400 million years ago. They are an ancestor of the squid. At some point, a mass extinction event happened, and many of them died in a shallow water area that is now Morocco.
Orthoceras swam and crawled along the ocean floor. When they died, their shells fell to the floor. Years of sediment covered them, and they fossilized into stone.
In order to swim, Orthoceras would fill their chambers (septic)with air, then squirt it out to propel themselves through the water like jets!
We try our best to take the best pictures and measurements possible. Please note that all measurements are approximate. Feel free to reach out in the chat if you want a different picture of the Ammonite fossil display plate or any other details!
The fossilized stones have been carefully preserved, cut into display plates, and polished to make a fantastic display piece, serving platter, or gemstone holder!
