This stunning necklace began with some amazing genuine gemstone quality black spinel that Stacy hand picked strand by strand from the manufacturer. Stacy then strung all the gemstone on incredibly study fireline. From there, she began crocheting the stones in a circular fashion into a rope necklace. While sourcing the spinel, we were gravitated towards this stunning piece of dendrictic opal stone, cut into a perfectly smooth oval. if you look closely at the stone you can imagine a gorgeous landscape scene, with a pond surrounded by snow. We can imagine sitting out under the bright sun, soaking up the beauty of the land! So with that imagination in mind, Jack took the stone and ran with it, cutting out a sturdy piece of sterling silver, bezel setting the stone into sturdy Sterling Silver, with a decorative beaded surround, and made into a pendant to hang from Stacy's creation, the crocheted spinel gemstone necklace. Wow. What a stunning pair they make. (the necklace and pendant, but also Jack and Stacy!) The necklace was completed with a sterling silver round shaped box clasp featuring a bezel set moonstone, which is attached to the stones with sterling silver hidden inside the necklace itself for extra security! The necklace measures 18 inches long, but then the dendrictic opal pendant hangs another 1.5" so it wears like a 19.5" necklace. This necklace is a one of a kind and will not be replicated. A must have piece for your collection, or to give to someone special.
The back of the pendant has a cut out of the silver for a little hidden surprise, to remind you of sitting out in the sun enjoying the land! You can see the back of the stone through the sun cutout! next to the sun is a 925 stamp, indicating that it is sterling silver.
This opal variety is termed "dendritic" due to its internal collection of dendrites. Dendrites are fern-like inclusions of iron, manganese, or other metallic oxides that create bold patterns within the gem, and give it its cool features! As you might guess, these stones are all one-of-a-kinds, as no two dendritic patterns are exactly the same.
The shine from spinel looks just like black diamonds. In ancient times, southeast Asia was known for exceptional spinel mines. This spinel became the treasured jewelry of kings and queens. However over the years spinel was forgotten. Increasing demand for ruby alternatives brought spinel back to the forefront in America, when Spinel was recently added as an August birthstone, sharing this month with peridot and sardonyx. It has long been mistaken for ruby by emperors and monarchs. Many of the famous “rubies” written about in the history books are actually spinels.
Dendritic Opal can be used healing the past and bringing harmony to the present. It balances masculine and feminine energies, conscious and subconscious, intellect and intuition. Dendritic opal is also known as Merlinite. It often is used to connect you to magic. (hence the name merlinite)
Black Spinel gemstones are said to be power stones that support strength and renewal and are said to have strong healing properties for the whole body.
