Black Spinel necklace with Dendrictic Opal, Black Tie jewelry
This stunning necklace began with excellent genuine gemstone quality faceted black spinel stones that Stacy hand-picked strand by strand from the manufacturer. Stacy then strung all the gemstones on incredibly sturdy stainless steel wire and completed the necklace with a silver toggle. While sourcing the spinel, we gravitated towards this stunning piece of dendritic opal stone cut into a perfectly smooth oval. Looking closely at the stone, you can imagine rolling hills, a jagged mountain with clouds above, and Butterflies flying by. We can imagine sitting out and watching the butterflies flying by. (OK, maybe we have a vivid imagination, but let's go with it!) So, with that imagination in mind, Jack cut a sturdy piece of sterling silver and bezel, set the stone into the silver with a decorative beaded surround, and made it into a pendant. The bail on the pendant moves laterally to allow pendant movement, drawing attention to it. Jack added this fantastic pendant to Stacy's creation, the single strand 5mm faceted cut spinel gemstone necklace. Wow. What a stunning pair they make. (the necklace and pendant, but also Jack and Stacy!) The necklace measures 17 inches long, but the dendritic opal pendant hangs another 1.5", which looks like an 18.5" necklace. This necklace is one of a kind and will not be replicated—a must-have piece for your collection or to give to someone special.
The back of the pendant has a silver cutout for a little hidden surprise—to remind you of those butterflies! You can see the back of the stone through the butterfly cutout!
This opal variety is termed "dendritic" due to its internal collection of dendrites. Dendrites are fern-like inclusions of iron, manganese, or other metallic oxides that create bold patterns within the gem and give it cool features! These stones are all one-of-a-kinds, as no two dendritic patterns are the same.
The shine from spinel looks just like black diamonds. In ancient times, Southeast Asia was known for exceptional spinel mines. This spinel became the treasured jewelry of kings and queens. However, over the years, spinel was forgotten. Increasing demand for ruby alternatives brought spinel back to the forefront in America when Spinel was recently added as an August birthstone, sharing this month with Peridot and Sardonyx. It has long been mistaken for ruby by emperors and monarchs. Many famous “rubies” written about in the history books are spinel.
►Metaphysical Properties:
Dendritic Opal can heal the past and bring harmony to the present. It balances masculine and feminine energies, conscious and subconscious, intellect and intuition. Dendritic opal is also known as Merlinite. It often is used to connect you to magic. (hence the name marinate)
Black Spinel gemstones are said to be power stones that support strength and renewal and have strong healing properties for the whole body.
